How to Play Rummy – Step-by-Step Guide

🎯 Objective

To form valid sets and sequences from the 13 cards dealt to you. A valid declaration must have:

• At least two sequences
• One must be a pure sequence
• The rest can be sets or sequences

🃏 Card Terms

• Sequence (Run): 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 5♣ 6♣ 7♣)
• Pure Sequence: Sequence without any Joker
• Impure Sequence: Sequence with a Joker used as a substitute
• Set: 3 or 4 cards of the same rank but different suits (e.g., 8♣ 8♦ 8♥)

📝 Step-by-Step Guide

1️⃣ Setup

• Standard 52-card deck (use two decks for 2+ players)
• Include Jokers
• Each player gets 13 cards
• Select a wild Joker randomly
• Start a discard pile and draw pile

2️⃣ Your Turn

1. Draw a card (from draw or discard pile)
2. Discard a card to the discard pile

3️⃣ Arrange Your Cards

Try to form:

• At least one pure sequence
• Another sequence (pure or impure)
• Sets with remaining cards

4️⃣ Declare

• When you’ve formed a valid hand, discard a card
• Then press Declare (or say it in physical games)

5️⃣ Validating

You win if your hand contains:

• One pure sequence
• One more sequence (pure or impure)
• Remaining cards as valid sets/sequences

⚠️ Points System

• Face cards (J, Q, K, A): 10 points each
• Number cards: face value
• Jokers: 0 points
• Valid declaration: 0 points
• Maximum loss: 80 points
